Once we had an article, called "A Guide for People Who Don’t Like Guides", which was devoted to Venice and it was written in
style of fiction books (check it out!). We decided not to make you wait too
long for unusual guides and made another one. After hundreds of movies and
empty bags of popcorn we are ready to explore fascinating Nice. Are you with
us? ;)
Why a movie guide? Well, Nice is honored to be called as
a French Hollywood. Local landscapes are not only beautiful, but also very photogenic
and, thus, very attractive for directors all around the world. It's hard to
leave this place without inspiration.
Never Say Never Again
Shall we really introduce this film? Sean Connery is
one of the best agents in the whole series of James Bond movies. In "Never
Say Never Again" he rides a motorcycle on the stairs of Mentone, falls
into an ambush in Monaco, spins intrigues in Casino Monte Carlo, and, finally,
saves another beauty out of the castle - Fort Careé in Antibes.
The Jewel of the Nile
Cannes. International film festival. In The Jewel of
the Nile with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner everything starts exactly
here: a luxurious party, where the main heroine is going to present her book.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
How can one talk about France without mentioning various
aromas? At least Grasse (a perfume capital of France) is worth mentioning. We bet Jean-Baptiste
Grenouille is an excellent guide: he will show you dark Grasse and tell you
about various aromas. But you’d better be careful…Jean-Baptiste is not very…
reliable…
Grace of Monaco
The movie is about American actress who becomes a princess.
Of course, the main focus is the Prince's Palace of Monaco and Monte Carlo. The
reaction of the princely family of Monaco was ambiguous. By the way, the love story
of Grace Kelly and Rainier III started exactly in Nice, on the Cannes Film Festival in 1955.
The Iron Mask
When you come to Lérins Islands, don’t forget to explore the fort, built by Cardinal Richelieu and take a look at the dungeon, where used to be a mysterious prisoner. After
publishing Alexandre Dumas’ novel “The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten
Years Later” everyone considered him to be an illegitimate son of Louis XIV of France. There are many movies, based on this book, but “The Iron Mask” (1929) is
considered to be the best one.
